Abstract

Abstract - This paper describes a haptic display for operating machines. It combines the flexibility of touch-screens with the haptic stimuli of ordinary push-buttons and thus provides an intuitive man-machine interface. The design of a control-panel consisting of several segments is in progress, which can produce buttons with different sizes. Every segment is a controlled actuator-sensor-system, which enables the segments to move independently from each other. Examinations referring to the actuator principles lead to an electrodynamic actuator. The position measurement uses a light reflecting sensor. A prototype with 3x5 segments will be fabricated.
